Very frosty morning when got up temperature was 2C but felt like 0C with the chill factor. Lots of white frosty ground.
The first 3.5km was a beautiful walk through mixed woodland. The highlight was watching a Grey Squirrel harvesting pine cones from way up at the top of the tree. We heard this thump, thump on the ground close to the trail and looked up to see this wee critter chewing off pine cone after pine cone. We guess it will come down to collect pine nuts later. It was facinating to watch it at work. The rest of the day was predominantly road work with 2km along a very busy Bitumen road then along the gravel Escapment sideroad, there was the odd brief off-road walks through woodland and around paddock. The views from the Escarpment of Toronto City were pretty good but too far to capture on camera. Just one of those days that you have to do as there is no other option.
We have decided to change our accomodation and transport options so we went off to check out a camp ground the is beside the trial further South. Basically we will have 2 hire cars so we do our own shuttles and return to the camp site and tent it for the next 6/7 days then find another camp site for the last legs of the trip. It was just getting too difficult to find suitable accommodation along the route, with a further complication that this weekend is Canadian Thanks Giving. It will also give us a chance to camp and work to our own timetable. Our drive to the campsite allowed us to do a bit of siteseeing off the trail for a bit.
We had to drive back to Orangeville as all the eating establishments around us were closed on Sunday, fairly common in this neck of the woods. Thank fully it was only a 15 minute drive. Turned out to be good choice anyway as the restaurant we found served fabulous food.
