A bit of slow start today as we packed up all our gear to relocate again. Weather was a bit misty again but not as cold as the past few days.
We are now totally independent for the last days of our journey. We were finding difficult using B&B’s for our shuttle service. It was not convenient for them the accommodate an early start and walking later in the day just was not working for us. We had. Also we set ourselves up for more camping than we have been able to do, doing it simple is our passion.
Today we were back to walking north / south so we started with a short section of the Caledon Trailway before the trail went bush through the Terra Cora conservation area. Another fabulous bit of well maintained trail through mixed woodlands that was a joy to walk. We saw our first Blue Jay on this section but it was too far away to really capture on camera but exciting all the same. Then we were back on the escarpment after a short climb. This trail just never lets you make any assumptions, as soon as you think the challenging bits are done look out as it’s going to come bite your Butt. It was back to some mixed rock scrambling, root dodging, leg testing and ankle breaking terrain, all through amazing woodlands. Now just to just keep you on form the trail the trail leaves the edge of the escarpment and takes you into some upland marshy, boggy bits but here the fabulous trail building crew decided to go easy on us and give some fabulous board walks to make like easier. While walking this bit we came across two Red Squirrels in what looked like a territory dispute. These two guys were belting around squeaking their little heads off and totally oblivious to us watching their antics. They were moving way too fast for us to video them, never mind trying to photograph them. Sadly all this came to an abrupt end as we got to a very busy major road for 800m then down a quieter side road. This road work allows us to just zone out and cover some distance. It was broken up by some nip and tuck across and around some overgrown paddocks before finally coming into Limehouse to finish our walking for the day.
Now time to go collect the second car and move to Milton Heights Campground, our location for the next 5/7 days. As we are not carrying our big packs anymore we splashed out and bought a cheap gazebo to augment our small tent and add some comfort to our camping experience. Nothing like cooking your own food on a Camp stove, even it is not out in the bush.
