A famous fountain in Rome, a must see for all tourists.
How to get there:
I set the GPS on my phone to direct me from my B&B to the Trevi Fountain (walking).
What I experienced here
A well known Roman landmark. This is a fountain with various statues that show the metaphorical temperament of the sea; one being tame, the other restless and wild.
This design was created by the Italian architect Nicola Salvi for by Pope with many influences from Bernini's previous ideas. Its construction started in 1732.
I visited and took many photos. A local family wanted a picture with me because I was beautiful! That made me giggle.
I was slightly disappointed. I don't know why, but I expected more, such as statues up the sides too. I also expected it to be a lot higher up.
I found it quite confusing to get to as it looked so simple on the map, so I was relieved to get there.
It's still very popular off-peak season. It's also just as beautiful as in the photos.
I forgot to throw in a coin! The second time I visited, on the 16/03/14 I remembered to throw in a coin, but I only passed it by accident on the way to the Pantheon.
I explained my experience to Jim, the New Yorker I met, and he told me that because I lowered his expectations of the Trevi Fountain, it was even more thrilling for him when he saw it.
