A Cypriot tavern right on the harbour in Kato Paphos, serving fish and typical Cypriot dishes while sitting next to the boats and yachts in the Marina. Due to its fantastic location prices are high and portions are small but worth it if you want to spend a slow lunch relaxing during the afternoon sun and soaking in the ambiance. Oh and watch out as there really is a live Pelican that makes and appearance.
Meal
Started with some olives and bread and good wine.
I had a delicious grilled trout, which was beautifully cooked and left whole with head and tail. The fish was opened up with a sprinkling of herbs, the flesh fell of the bone easily and was very tasteful.
Wine and beverages
Had a delicious medium sweet rose zinfandel and sparkling mineral water.
Atmosphere and decor
The restaurant is outside so not a winter place, although, even in winter Cyprus is relatively warm during the mdi day. The tables are perched on a large wooden pontoon stretching from the harbour right up to the boat moorings. Get a seat at the edge and you’ll be able to see the fish beneath you feet as you tuck in to their brethren on you plate. Boats are coming and going from their berths and this gives you a wonderful distraction from the food.
Dress code
Anything from Mediteranean smart to very casual, its a taverna!
Locality
The restaurant is located just next to the small fishing harbor within 100 metres of the Paphos medieval castle. Tourists pass by on one side great for people watching and the small boats berthed in the harbour. There are many tourists’ shops and other eating and drinking outlets around so the whole area is really buzzing with tourists.
Service
The maître d' who stands at the front of the restaurant on street enticing guests to enter is very charismatic. Once inside reasonably friendly Russian waiters and waitresses will serve you. If you speak Russian you’ll get great service, otherwise you’ll be treated like a tourist. When it gets busy service quality drops like a stone.
Other remarks
Very expensive and small portions. To be expected considering its prime tourist location.
